Producing My Own Web Videos

Sorry for the late post, I was really busy yesterday and wasn’t able to finish the post I had written. I’ll save that for tomorrow.

Today, I bought a Flip video camera and a 500GB external hard drive.

Why you ask? Because I want to start filming, editing, and producing my own videos of course.

No, I do not want to become a YouTube star, although that could be cool.

There are two reasons I want to start producing my own movies:

1. Video production is a great skill to have.

The online video vertical is set to witness explosive growth in 2011 and in the years following. Not only this, but having the know-how to produce videos will make me a more attractive, well rounded applicant for jobs. Not only do I know how to blog, understand how to use social networks, and run a marketing campaign, I can also produce my own videos. I feel like the combination of these skills would make me very attractive to a Marketing or Advertising agency.

2. Producing videos is a great form of storytelling.

I’m a creative person, and I love to tell and hear or see a good story. I already use my writing skills to tell stories, so why not add video to my repertoire. It can only enhance my creativity, and help me become a better storyteller.

What to do now?

I guess the only question that remains is, “what do I shoot?”

Do I film interviews? That could make for great content for my blog.

Or do I vlog? That could also make for great content, and as a blogger, it would be pretty cool to try.

Or I could shoot my own shorts. That would be really cool.

As I get situated with my flip cam, I’ll let you know what I decide to put out.
